If you’re familiar with the Wonder novel and short stories by R.J. Palacio, you’ll understand what I mean when I say this book reminded me of The Julian Chapter. The story navigates friendship, popularity, self-acceptance, and accountability.

Overview

Road Trip Redemption is the third book in Becca Wierwille’s Road Trip Rescue trilogy. Jada Robinson, the main character, hurt her best friend, Kimmy, three years ago. She wants to apologize, but worries that Kimmy won't forgive her. One day, Jada discovers a dog that resembles Kimmy’s long-lost dog, Bo. She believes returning the dog will restore their broken friendship.

What I Liked

I liked the story being told from the bully's perspective. All three books tell a story from different perspectives. Looking through Kimmy's eyes, we'd assume the worst. Jada, however, admits her wrongdoing. She wanted to fit in, but then she realized what it's like to be hurt by someone claiming to be your friend.

Jada deeply cares about her friend and feels the need to prove that she’s not a bad person by doing random acts of kindness towards strangers.

Reflection

Have you like Jada felt you weren't worthy of forgiveness? In the book Jada learns that God still forgives us when we do wrong. Hopefully, that will encourage you the next time you feel burdened by your past.

Recommend?

This book is good for anyone who likes coming-of-age stories and books that discuss deep issues.

My rating (1-5 stars): 5

You can buy the book on Amazon or you can check out Becca's website, Beloved Chronicles.
